Always looking to push musical boundaries, Unknown FM has been at the forefront of the London Dance scene for many years since its conception in 1998. So much so that our DJs have graced the decks at the cream of London’s leading clubs and promotions as well as representing internationally.
Unknown FM inspired parties have taken the roof off at venues such as the Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, Pacha London, The Cross, Canvas and the Egg. Not forgetting lining up alongside Subliminal Sessions with Erick Morillo, Bora Bora, Danny Tanaglia, DJ Sneak, Blaze, Kenny Dope, Sandy Rivera, Tony Humphries, Marshall Jefferson, MYNC Project, Bobby & Steve, Hoxton Whores and Soul Avengerz to name a few.
Diversity has always been our aim with a full spectrum of house genres from deep, soulful, funky, latin infused house to dirty tech electro minimal jackin laced house. Not forgetting our 70s and 80s DJs who play the music which inspired many of the dance anthems heard today.
The concept of Unknown FM was never about money, egos or fame. Purely about the music, the vibe and the feeling. Hence the mysterious name for the station. Well known by nature, Unknown by choice. Some people have music running through their bones and can not live without it, it’s hard to explain. It’s like not really being happy with what you do, music is life you cannot live without. There is no better feeling then playing the music you love and having people respond to and share that experience.
In 2002 was approached by two like minded people in the form of a concept to take Pirate Radio to the next level. Taking a professional approach, to represent a genre of music we felt was being neglected by most of the mainstream and pirate radio stations. We did not want to saturate the radio with ad breaks, the idea being to present good quality music in a way that is respectful and professional. An ethos which is still in place today, with minimal adverts and shouts, the emphasis firmly on broadcasting quality music.
As we move with the times and keep up with technology, we find ourselves moving away from the FM band, not knowing how long our life there will last. Therefore looking to the future, we see the launch of UnknownFM.Net, where we will strive to reach a larger more global audience, spreading our sound worldwide.
