MY OH MIAMI!!!
We are back: safe (but not quite sure of how sound) from Miami. What a week of phenomenal music, events and connecting with friends from all over the globe. If you were a skeptic who questioned how good the conference was going to be, consider yourself deprived of an amazing time.
Personally, I haven’t had so much fun at WMC in years. For one, the conference atmosphere returned to the organic state it had before the “I wanna be a dj” fad took over electronic music. Also, I lightened my gig load this year which allowed me to actually absorb the music and vibe without having to uproot myself from an already fun time, then scurry across town for a dj set. Less was definitely more this time around. (more…)

Drop (Music for the people) return’s Saturday 26th March at London’s Vibe bar.
This months – Zaki from Muak headlines the party with Sol Brown.
Zaki Lais is a man on a mission. A mission to bring the sound of deep house out from the underground and into the mainstream by any means necessary.
This mission, started out from a base in East London where Zaki grew up and still resides, has since led him on journeys across the globe to play, promote and produce the music he lives so passionately for.
Starting out on the early pirate radio stations Risk FM and Touch FM, Zaki helped to pioneer the deep house sound across London’s airwaves and was an instrumental figure behind the house music explosion of the mid 1990s.
This love affair quickly led onto more liaisons which saw him step out of the studio and into the DJ booth. First at some of London’s best nights and most infamous venues including Lazy Dog, Vertigo, The End, Turnmills, Egg and AKA and then onto others throughout the UK, Europe, America and Asia.
Now armed with a passion to entertain, and a vision to host his own parties, Zaki launched Muak (People Together) in 2003. Widely regarded as one of London’s best underground nights, it’s here where he can regularly be heard preaching the gospel of deep house music to a loyal following who share his vision to bring people together through a love of music and mutual respect sometimes so lacking from other promoters.
Not content to rest on his enviable achievements, next up was the launch of Muak (Music) where Zaki has overseen the production, release and promotion of quality deep house outputs from a range of home grown and international talent on both digital and physical formats.
When asked to convey his mission and where it might take him Zaki’s response is typically passionate, “It all stems first from a love of music. Without that, how can we put our heart and soul into it and make it work. Once people see that, it takes them with us and keeps them coming back for more. As to where we might end up, who knows, we’re just enjoying the journeyâ€.
So are we Zaki. And long may it continue.

Say New Jersey to certain people and the first thing they will think of is house music – the kind of music that laid down it’s roots in late 70s / 80s Club Zanzibar home to DJs such as Tony Humphries, Tee Scott and Larry Levan. The kind of music that was slowly elaborated on and built by producers such as Blaze and many many others. into a powerful pantheon that is respected worldwide. (more…)
