With the new year come fresh ideas and new beginnings in clubland. ‘Soundclash’ brings together a variety of Dance music’s splintering forms: electronic breaks, syncopated beats, fusions of rhythms and melodic grooves to fuse with analogue styles and templates of familiarity within those sounds of the old school that music heads and clubbers still gravitate toward. Taking advantage of that Talking Music Productions’ Marcia Carr and the team behind Stop Making Sense and the Bedroom Bar have hit the ground running with a venture that brings together some of UK’s fine Underground talent to present this one-off special, a high flying showcase of music expression; a sound clash fusion – old hybrids meets new electronica and beyond.
SOUL DAMN FUNKY’S 4TH BIRTHDAY
With UK soulful house legend…
*** SEAN MCCABE ***
Another year has passed so quickly and here we are again getting ready to celebrate the forth year of Soul Damn Funky.
We’ve had some of the biggest names in house music grace the Soul Damn Funky decks since we started in 2009 and that trend continues with non other than Sean McCabe.
For those of you who don’t know the name, Sean McCabe is now one of the leading UK soulful house DJ/ producers and having remixed for the likes of: Todd Terry, Barbara Tucker, Dennis Ferrer, Joey Negro and Quentin Harris you can see why!
Bristol-based producer Sean McCabe has had plenty of time to develop his own sound. Famously, he created his first tracks at the tender age of 17. Now 28, he’s spent the last 11 years fine-tuning a trademark sound that is effortlessly soulful.
Sean made his name in soulful house, developing a long-running relationship with legendary US garage label King Street Sounds. Since then, he’s amassed an impressive discography, delivering inspired reworks for labels like Local Talk, Z Records, Strictly Rhythm, Room Control, Tribe, and Quantize.
A quick listen to any of his productions or one of his superb DJ sets will confirm this attractive, emotion-rich aesthetic. While rooted in house, his sound regularly takes on flavours of disco, boogie, Afro, deeper grooves, proto-house, ‘80s garage-house dubs and much more besides.
As a DJ, he has forged a reputation at the legendary Southport Weekender, where he has performed regularly. Anyone who can impress the notoriously knowledgeable Southport Weekender crowd must be doing something right.
Sean has traveled the world as a DJ, playing as far afield as Asia and the United States, as well as regular appearances in Europe and the UK. Refreshingly, he seems to have no particular aspirations to play in gargantuan clubs, and admits to preferring gigs in small, intimate venues, where he can make a connection with the crowd.
Also on the night we have Soul Damn Funky residents Curly Deb, The Analysir, Kevin Fernando and Russell Ruckman.
Located in Brighton’s beautiful theatre district, away from the madness of West & East Street, tucked away by the entrance to the Royal Pavilion, this intimate basement club with a “Turbosound†sound system, lights and lasers and a very professional and friendly team of staff.
The venue is also conveniently just five minutes from Brighton’s mainline train station, all of the busses stop here and there is a taxi rank just over the road.
A SOULFUL SOIREE – PARTY WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE
We had good numbers through the door at our last event plus lots of new faces all saying they will come again, but as this venue is smaller than the last one demand for tickets will be high, but on the plus side this means everyone who’s there will be there for the music, and when you go out for the music you want to be around like minded people.
The capacity is 150 but so its not uncomfortable we are only selling 120 tickets.
Party kicks off at 10pm and rolls through till 4am
