“There was a growing digital demand for our own music, which we were watching be filled by pirate sites, and the current distribution networks were saying real DJs play vinyl and we knew we needed to do something,†Tappert tells DJ mag Canada. (more…)
Southport 50th was always going to be special. Every year Southport Weekender comes around again and with so many mind blowing gigs and sets we’ve seen throughout its history,  it would be fair to assume Alex, Dave and the rest of the Southport Weekender family couldn’t top it off again, but my gosh they did! It was an epic weekender.Â
The history of Southport Weekender has been inspirational to many lovers of soul and unity. That’s why so many American artists, who have influenced dance music, always return back to get a slice of this unique melting pot. Listening to music is still amazing today, it’s just that you’d be crazy to buy a CD. That’s not me saying that: That’s what the whole world is saying. CD sales have been declining every year for more than a decade because CDs are effectively useless in a world where digital music files are so easy to play and transfer, legally or otherwise. (more…)
Remember Twitter Music? Probably not. The ill-fated recommendation service started as We Are Hunted, which was a great independent service until Twitter bought it, tanked its music ambitions, and killed it. Now there’s a rumor Twitter has its roving eye on SoundCloud. We really hope history isn’t about to repeat itself. (more…)
Moog just trotted out a new version of its popular Sub Phatty synth that’s got a braille overlay to help the visually impaired. It’s hard to believe it took the legendary manufacturer this long to get around to it, especially given that it’s actually a pretty simple modification to the panel’s design. (more…)
