A former jazz dancer, Marcia Carr aka Marcia DaVinylMC is a woman of many talents – which aptly describe the long standing club DJ and co-radio presenter of shows on Ministry Of Sound and Colourful radio, who’s also a member of the London based Ladyzâ„¢ DJ collective.
Her club DJ sets of deeper, soulful, jazzy style encompassing tech house, Afro, gospel house, disco, broken beat, nu jazz and dubstep have also featured on air of a variety of radio stations as far flung as Singapore and Sri Lanka to a host of European neighbours – Estonia, Finland, Norway, Luxembourg, Greece, Ireland, Switzerland, Scotland plus venues like the Ministry Of Sound radio alongside the likes of Bob Sinclair, David Morales and MAW. Invitations to spin around the world have continued to find favour and appreciation for Marcia gaining new fans everywhere she goes. Having spun with some honorary names over the years that include Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher, Paul ‘Anderson, Frankie Valentine, Norman Jay MBE, Larry Heard, Jeremy Newall, Seamus Haji, Teddy Douglas (The Basement Boys), Marc Mac (4Hero), Ricky Morrison, Bert Bevans, DJ Paulette, Kev Beadle, Johnny Reckless, Jazzie B, Cosmo, Rachel Aubern and many others. On a night off Marcia still has a yearning to take to the dance floor – she’s definitely a girl about town always supporting the underground electronic dance scene.
Fitting in journalist contributions also to I-DJ, Soulm8online and the Soul Survivors dance magazines, Marcia Carr also runs music PR / Artist agency company Talking Music Productions, hosts many different events, is involved with studio production and remix work, she has also provided independent music consultancy to many organisations and illustrate exactly why she is a tour de force, she is very much in demand around the world.
Soul Central “In-Ten-City” (Aaron Ross 2010 Deep Dub)
Another solid record from the back cat, there’s a dope little techy, arpegiatted sound towards the end of the main mix, I was messing around with an edit and I looped up that part as and then as the breakdown was made up of that musical part it was all without drums so I added new beats and worked an arrangement around that techy part. It totally changes the energy of the record and hopefully opens it up to the DJ.s who play that deeper techy sound.
Peven Everett “Stuck” (Phil Asher’s Soul Heaven Version)
One of my proudest signings and the record that launched the label, a soulful classic with a tight edit from Phil Asher…
