Online radio is gaining in popularity. The number of Americans that tune in weekly to online radio grew to 42 million, up from 33 million in 2008. Stuck in the 11 percent to 13 percent range for the past three years, weekly online listening now reaches 17 percent of the population, according to Arbitron and Edison Research.The number of monthly online listeners is 69 million or 27 percent of the population. And nearly half of the population, or 49 percent, an astounding 125 million, have ever listened to online radio.

DJ BEAT a.k.a. Mr. Zuppa is one of the most experienced DJâ€™s from Latvia. His DJ skills and experience developed alongside the Latvian dance music scene itself. From the start of his DJ-ing career he has been actively promoting House and Dance music in Latvia and in the Baltic States.
Although he has started to spin vinyl in the early 90â€™s, in the very beginning of Latviaâ€™s electronic music era, DJ BEAT joined the music scene at the early age of 6. He studied at the Academy of Music, where he had mastered solfegio, piano and spend 11 years singing in “Jazepa Medinaâ€ boys choir, one of the leading choirs in the Baltic States.
Later, upon discovering such music styles as disco, house and acid jazz, DJ BEAT realized that his future would definitely be associated with music. 1990 arrived & this was the time when DJ BEAT DJâ€™d for the first time, playing on “reel to reelâ€ tape recorders in one of Rigaâ€™s discotheques called “Dâ€™Mixâ€.
Following year DJ BEAT started working for a radio station “Radiodejasâ€, directed by the first deejays in the former USSR – Ugis Polis and Janis Krauklis. Same year, DJ BEAT participated in a legendary dance tour “Superdejasâ€ all over Latvia alongside such personalities as Kamzols, Roberts Gobzins, MC Uncle U, Mixmaster AG and many other Latvian dance music pioneers. In 1992 club “Argoâ€ was formed in Riga, where DJ BEAT DJâ€™d every weekend within the framework of the same “Radiodejasâ€ project.
1993 was the year when radio station “Radiodejas” changed its name to “Super FM” and DJ BEAT became the host of TOP40 and the voice of the radio stationâ€™s advertisements, news and other broadcasts. Every Thursday DJ BEAT hosted a radio show called “House music with DJ Beatâ€ on the airwaves of Super FM. The show was devoted mostly to US Garage House, but also delved into Deep and Tech House grooves.
In 1994 the radio station founded the biggest and the most modern club of its time in Latvia, called “Super FM Dance Clubâ€, where DJ BEAT became a resident DJ, playing house music every Thursday night. Later that year, DJ BEAT went on tour as a DJ of Latvian group “Pamatinstinktsâ€ and performed and recorded as a singer together with the group. One of the songs â€œI want youâ€ (â€œEs gribu teviâ€) got to number two on the “Super FMâ€ TOP 40.
Later on DJ BEAT was continuing to bring the sound of House music to club audiences in Latvia, parallely he was involved in organizing the annual electronic music event “Free Zoneâ€. The event was well attended and became more popular with every year. Afterwards DJ BEAT, alongside with like-minded DJâ€™s Deep-Z, NGC-5128 and Kombinator, formed an underground electronic music portal www.808.lv
Ever since, BEAT has played in such clubs as: Dâ€™Mix, Argo, Panna, Metro, OLA, Casablabca, Balsam Bar, M-808, Depo, Pulse, Nobody Writes to Colonel, C-1113, EVO Bar, O Bar, MultiClub, Bermud, Gallery NIA, Fashion, Atlantis, Moskva, Hedonia 55, as well as in different clubs and events all over Latvia and abroad. In collaboration with Rhythm Doctor (UK), DJ Fudge (FR), Raul Saarements, Mixmaster AG&Raitis (LV), Tadeu Nice&Domino (LT), DJ Vidis (LT), Madis Nestor (EST), Robert Peterson (EST), Dave Storm (EST), M-Key (LT), and many more he was promoting and organizing different house music events.
DJ BEAT joined DJâ€™s crew “HOUSE OF LOVEâ€ with DJâ€™s: Mario, Romantixx and Jackmaster G in 2004 and became a resident DJ of Rigaâ€™s house club â€œHEDONIA 55â€. During his 4-year residency at the â€œHEDONIA 55â€, he has continued working as an events promoter, organizing House music events in various places in Latvia: Sunset Vibes, Riga Housing Authority, and many more. DJ BEAT was also involved in organizing the Baltic Beach Party, one of the biggest events in the Baltic States, and for several years he was also one of the Dance House Stage DJâ€™s, playing alongside with: DJ Gregory (FRA), Green Velvet (USA), DJ Julm (Rulers of The Deep/Julm Records), DJ Lauris Lee & DJ Karalius (RyRalio Records), DJ Vidis (Zip FM), DJ Da Sunlounge (Myna Music, UK), DJ Blacksoul (Blacksoul Music), DJ Lady Wax (RU), DJ-=UHU=- (LV) and moreâ€¦
Besides his love of music, he has also found time to work as a producer and a computer graphics designer. From 2000 DJ BEAT is managing atmosferix.net, which was formed as internet radio, but which now gives you the most updated information on house, nu jazz, live/recorded dj sets, events in Baltic States and the UK.
